Tim Urban’s great Ted Talk on Procrastination is one of the most popular Ted Talks of all time (75M+ plays). In just 14 minutes, Tim humorously covers procrastination using great metaphors, anecdotes and visuals.
As someone prone to procrastination (but self-aware 😊), I love the visual imagery of the “Instant Gratification Monkey” (part of the brain that favours fun and easy activities over productive work) leading procrastinators into unrelated activities until the “Panic Monster” suddenly kicks in and turbo-charges us to get work delivered.
However, the main take away for me is the danger of “procrastination with no deadlines” where people delay meaningful life aspirations, career goals or personal projects……
My thought for today – watch out for your own instant gratification monkey distracting you from what is really important to you……for those who have ever watched the film Dead Poets Society, Seize the Day!
